The left hand picture shows a simple square knot sennit
which will create an interesting effect when working with two colors. Mount your two doubled cords, each a different color, next to each other. The cord which crosses over the top at the beginning of your first square knot (generally the one on your right) will be the center color and it will be framed by the second color.

To create the pattern in the right hand picture, first mount one color with a lark's head knot (the white cord here) and then mount the second color (green shown here) around the first one so that your inside cords are one color and your outside cords a second color, again using a lark's head knot. Alternate your knotting and core cords to create this pattern.
