The picture on the left shows a square knot sennit
using beads on the outside.
To create this type of pattern, simply put a bead on each
of your knotting cords in between two square knots.
To reproduce the pattern in the left-hand picture make 6 square knots
and then add a bead on each of your knotting cords.
Then make two square knots and add another pair of beads.
You may vary the effects you get by choosing
how many square knots to make in between beads.

The picture on the right shows a square knot sennit
using overhand knots and beads on the core cords.
To create the pattern shown, use core cords that are
a different color from your knotting cords.
Make 8 square knots and then make an overhand knot
using your core cords.
Follow this with 4 square knots and then make another
overhand knot with your core cords.
Make 8 more square knots and then add a bead to your core cords.
Make two square knots and then add another bead to your core cords.
